The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
