A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
